Rites of Christian Initiation at St. Paul's
Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults, or RCIA, is a process through which adults prepare to receive the sacraments of the Church. It is a reinstatement of a tradition of the early church, in which conversion to the Catholic faith is viewed not as an instant occurrence, but instead as a spiritual journey which takes place through distinct stages over time. Through the RCIA those of high school age or older who are considering membership in the Church are paired with members of the parish who act as sponsors, to welcome and support the incoming members. The process involves regular meetings that include educational presentations, discussion and prayer.
Those younger than high school age may participate in the RCIC, the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children. We welcome into the RCIA those who want to become a part of the Church, those who wish to know more about the Church, and those who would be willing to serve as sponsors or hosts during this process.
